Moving a parent into assisted living is never an easy decision, but our experience with The Ivy at Cherry Hills has made the transition so much easier than we could have imagined.
From the moment my father moved in, the staff has been incredibly kind, patient, and welcoming. They have gone out of their way to help him adjust to his new home, while also providing me with exceptional support throughout the process. Whether it was answering my many questions, helping coordinate deliveries, or assisting with getting my father established with a new physician and pharmacy, everyone has been responsive, compassionate, and genuinely caring.
The community itself feels warm and inviting—it truly feels like home rather than an institution. My father has enjoyed the delicious meals and the variety of activities available, which have helped him settle in and stay engaged.
I know there will be challenges anytime a loved one makes such a significant life change, but knowing he is surrounded by people who truly care has given our family tremendous peace of mind. We are very grateful to everyone at The Ivy at Cherry Hills for making this transition such a positive experience.
I am writing as an alias for concerns for my family member who is a resident at Ivy, because I am deeply concerned about the direction this community has taken since the change in ownership and management.
For years, through 2021 and into the beginning of 2026, our family felt that Cherry Creek was a community that functioned well. Like any senior living facility, it was not perfect, but there was stability. There were established systems, experienced employees who knew the residents, and a sense that the people caring for our loved ones understood their individual needs.
That changed after Oakmont took over.
Families were told that changes were coming and that things would ultimately improve. Approximately three months later, however, many of the changes we have witnessed have left us questioning whether the priorities of the new ownership truly align with the safety, stability, and well-being of the residents.
One of my greatest concerns involves medication administration. Caregivers have explained to me that they have continued to rely on paper medication administration records (MARs) rather than an electronic medication administration record system. As a family member, I find this extremely concerning. As someone who is familiar with how things operate in this environment prior, medication administration is an area where accuracy and accountability are critical. When dealing with elderly residents who may take numerous medications throughout the day, families should be able to have confidence that every reasonable safeguard is being used to reduce the possibility of medication errors. What concerns me most is the overall impression these changes have created. Families entrusted this community with people we love. We should never be left wondering whether financial considerations, corporate restructuring, or cost reductions are being prioritized over resident care.
Senior living is not an ordinary business. The people living inside these buildings are not products, numbers, or occupied units. They are mothers, fathers, grandparents, spouses, veterans, teachers, nurses, and members of families who have placed an enormous amount of trust in the people responsible for their care.
When ownership changes, families should see improvements in care, communication, staffing, technology, and safety. We should not be watching established systems disappear while being repeatedly told that something better is coming.
I sincerely hope Oakmont and Ivy leadership listen to the families who are raising concerns instead of dismissing them as resistance to change. If the new ownership truly believes in providing exceptional senior care, then demonstrate it through actions: invest in reliable medication-management systems, retain experienced employees, maintain appropriate staffing, communicate transparently with families, and place resident safety ahead of corporate cost-cutting.
Until meaningful improvements are visible, I would strongly encourage any family considering placing a loved one here to ask difficult questions before making that decision. Ask about staffing turnover. Ask how medications are documented and administered. Ask what safeguards are in place to prevent medication errors. Ask what has changed since the ownership transition. Most importantly, speak directly with current residents and their families.
Our loved ones deserve more than promises about what the community will eventually become.
They deserve safe, consistent, and compassionate care right now.
It's hard for me to put into words how much I appreciate this wonderful place, but I'm going to try. This place is special. It's so good on so many levels: location, amenities, atmosphere, and most importantly the people who live and work there.
If you have a loved one who needs memory care, this is the best place around. The caring and compassionate staff took excellent care of my dad there. The staff/resident ratio is really low, like 1 to 3. (At most of the other places I looked at before choosing here, the ratio seemed more like 1 to 10+.) This means my dad and all of the residents in memory care unit got/get excellent care and are treated with dignity. The staff always kept me well informed and were easy to get ahold of if I had questions or concerns.
It is a vibrant community with lots of activities to do every day, opportunities for excursions, and special events throughout the year. It's located in an ideal spot overlooking a large, beautiful park and the Highline Canal trail.
Unfortunately, my dad recently passed away. When the mortuary came to the facility for him, the entire staff lined up on both sides of the hallway outside of his room and sang Amazing Grace. My family and I were so touched by this demonstration of love and respect for my dad. Probably the best example of many I could cite of how great the people are at CHAL. Thank you so much!
When my aunt suddenly needed to move into assisted living, our family visited six different facilities trying to find the right fit. From the moment we walked into Cherry Hills Assisted Living and Memory Care (CHAL), we knew it was special. The atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, and the staff truly seemed to care about the residents.
My aunt moved in about a year ago, and it was a huge adjustment - she had been living independently and had no plans to move. The team at CHAL went above and beyond to help her settle in and feel comfortable in her new home. They were patient, kind, and always took the time to make sure she was doing okay.
Now, a year later, she’s happy and thriving. She enjoys the staff and the beautiful facility. It’s such a relief knowing she’s well cared for and surrounded by people who genuinely care about her.
We’re so grateful to everyone at CHAL for making what started as a stressful transition into such a positive experience. I can’t recommend them enough!
I don’t very often give ratings of 5 stars but when it comes to the care of our mother at Cherry Hills Assisted Living they deserve it. From the moment we went on our first tour we knew it was her last home. Michelle was transparent with all the financial information then we met Kathryn and she was the topper with her care for Mom. They are giving her one on one dining escort as well as activities. They have her under their wing and the transition is going well. Warms our heart that they really do care. Her last home is a winner.
