This was one of the hardest decisions I had to make in life after vowing I would never put my mother in a rest home, because I felt the obligation to take care of her and provide her with the love care and patience she showed in raising her kids and loving so many people. Little did I know the challenge that faced me were beyond my level of understanding as she quickly declined with dementia. She often looked at me and said you’re not my son , often talked about having sex with me , and pulled knives on me. My world was devastated the loving mother I once knew was a shell of herself, and for safety and health reasons I decided to research and find her the best facility her money and assistance could afford. Which brought us to the gardens. Cyndi was wonderful she walked us through the process and made life so much easier for me and my decision to place her there. Over the years I have struggled to go see my mother there often times I sat in the parking lot and could get the courage to go in because of fear that my mother would not remember her baby her favorite son . I struggle daily that I don’t go see my mother it’s just so hard and it brings me to tears. Physically she is present to me but emotionally she is dying over and over day after day and I hurt about this. Her immediate family is over 1 hour away so it just myself and my daughter her to visit her. Nevertheless I’m writing this to thank Cyndi the director for being so unprofessional and snapping at my daughter when she visited the facility on yesterday, your concern was valid about the heat but to say “ you have a lot to say and to walk away from her as she was talking to you “ was very unprofessional and was a negative reflection on you as the director, a person , and representative of the gardens. My daughter left in tears and said she will never be coming back , although she will because she loves her grandmother and understands she will not be alive much longer. Then when I called to talk to you all I have heard was the truth of your words to me since yesterday all night as a devil speaking to my soul from you to me “ yall don’t even come and see your moma “ “ now yall want to come see her” your right Cindi I don’t come see her as much as I should or could but your comment although may be true was very hurtful and prayer is what I’ll lean on. I’m still shocked at your behavior towards my daughter and your words to me as a son who misses his mom and wants her to remember me and share memories and laughs together. The love I have for my mother is not measured by the number of visits I have as you assume to keep tally of in your records. What does it say to you in your professional understanding if one family visits daily versus a family that doesn’t show up at the facility daily. I trust that she is in great care , care of professionals and I do my best to assist you guys , and not to interfere and confuse her routine as much as possible. All we wanted to do is take her to a family reunion yesterday in her hometown. Where family could visit with her , but you assumed she would be sitting outside in the scorching hot heat as if we didn’t have the understanding to keep her in the Ac, I’ll leave off the comments your staff shared about you and other comments you made towards me for the right time . I’m sorry moma I miss you and I’ve tried so hard to be a great son as you were a great mother .
The Gardens was wonderful to my mother while she lived in their memory care. The staff was patient, kind and treated her with respect even though she was feisty at times! Her stay was short due to rapid decline but the Gardens was a great experience for us. Very clean, capable and friendly. They even called for an update a month after she left them. 😊
Please do your research before admitting your loved one to memory care here. This place is probably good for people who can do for themselves. I have not had good customer service here with my mother due to the fact that the 2 resident care coordinator’s that work there told me not to visit my mother during dinner hours. My time was very limited due to my work schedule and I could only get to see her around 5:00pm or later during the week. Every time i walked in the door either one of them would stare at me and say rudely “what are you doing here, you know you’re not supposed to be here during dinner time”. This is totally against a resident’s right. Any family member should be able to visit at any time. My mother is in memory care, not in jail. I’m so glad I talked with the Executive Director about it. This was very unprofessional and very rude. PLEASE FAMILIARIZE yourself with residents rights and read all of them or they will become very bossy and try to interfere. The PCA’s are the best I have seen in Statesville. They are very considerate and very friendly to both me and my mother. The medication technicians, and the resident care coordinators tend to be overly bossy and don’t display good customer service at all. I wish I had never considered this place at all.
My mom has been loving here since March. The team at the Gardens has been nothing but awesome with our family and Mom during this pandemic. They have done everything to make sure residents are not only staying safe and healthy but entertained the best they can. Mom and other residents have their nails and hair done, limited activities but they are still happening allowing them to feel special while missing family and friend's. Each person receives daily activity packets, small group bingo etc. We are kept informed constantly either by phone or email.
Of course we can not wait to hug mom again but knowing she is Safe and loved by this awesome team makes our hearts happy.
My mother has been a resident at The Gardens for a couple years. The staff is absolutely wonderful....like family. The meals are great. The facility is very clean. Updated. Great activities. The therapists there have done a wonderful job with my mother. I take comfort in knowing my mother is at the best facility available. A big thank you to The Gardens for keeping everyone safe through Covid.
