Our experience with Mom at Grand Oaks, from the time she was in assisted living to her transition to memory care, was exceptional. The dedicated staff treated her with compassion, competence, and loving kindness. They gave her dignity and peace in her final days. Our family will always be grateful for the Grand Oaks family, as indeed they are one. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Grand Oaks of Jensen Beach is such an amazing facility. The moment you walk into Grand Oaks you are treated like family. There is always fun activities. Grand Oaks has a great Memory Care and the staff in Memory always does an amazing job.
My grandmother was a resident at Grand Oaks on the Memory Care side. I am writing this review to share my experience, one that was deeply disappointing, heartbreaking, and at times completely unacceptable.
She entered the facility more aware than she was by the end of her life, and I visited her frequently throughout her time there. I paid close attention to the quality of care she received, and unfortunately, the Memory Care side of Grand Oaks falls significantly short in several critical areas.
To start, there was a noticeable lack of basic hygiene and resident care. My grandmother experienced frequent UTIs which ultimately escalated to sepsis, a consequence that could have been prevented with routine hygiene practices, such as daily changes of underwear/diapers. I often found soiled bed sheets left unchanged, raising serious questions about how often residents are being checked on, especially since staff are supposed to assist them every morning and throughout the day.
On top of that, I observed many times that staff were sitting on their phones rather than tending to the residents. Some would even be “taking care of a resident” but were clearly just sitting on their phones, offering no interaction, no comfort, and no presence. For residents in memory care, simple companionship and attentiveness is essential and easy. This lack of engagement was so disappointing.
After family reached out expressing concerns to the director of Grand Oaks you would think there would be change and improvement, CONSISTENT change and improvement. I was left to not trust them one bit. The lack of responsibility, the neglect in basic care, and the disregard for cleanliness left me feeling that my grandmother was not safe or properly cared for.
To families considering Grand Oaks for memory care: please think twice, maybe even three times. The emotional toll of seeing your loved one neglected, paired with the lack of trust in staff to carry out even basic caregiving responsibilities is simply not worth it. I strongly recommend installing a camera if you decide to place your loved one here, only to have some peace of mind and ensure they are receiving the care they deserve. This was my family’s experience, and I share it in hopes that others can make a more informed decision.
I moved my parents into Grand Oaks on 10/1/2015. Grand Oaks provided them with excellent and compassionate care during the 5 years that my parents called Grand Oaks home. The staff at Grand Oaks treated my parents (and me too) as family. My father passed away in January, 2020 and my mother in October, 2020. Stacey and her staff are caring and thorough, with the best interests of the residents always at the forefront of all care provided. Debbie and all of the front desk staff are wonderful! They are extremely helpful, cheerful and willing to go the extra mile. Melissa and her activity staff are fun and provide activities that are enjoyable and keep residents engaged and occupied. The dining staff is excellent. The food is delicious and the wait staff and chefs give an atmosphere of a fine dining experience while treating residents with the upmost respect. Laurie, as administrator, loves her community and works hard to make sure that all aspects of residential life at Grand Oaks runs smoothly and with the best interests of everyone always in mind. This was also true of, Randy, the previous administrator. As my parents health declined they became difficult. The Grand Oaks staff was wonderful in working with me to help provide the best care possible for my parents. I live in TX and it was a great comfort to know that my parents were always in good hands. I couldn't have done what I did for my parents without the excellent care they received at Grand Oaks. I was especially grateful that both of my parents were able to pass at their home - Grand Oaks.
Grand Oaks’ staff in Jensen Beach are the best caretakers you could ask for for your loved ones. My mom just passed away there yesterday. Mom was a resident for only 6 months, but in that 6 months, these people became family to us. They cared for mom, and us as we navigated through moms final months. We were always greeted with a smile and like “Cheers” everybody knew our names. Mom had been in a different assisted living and it was horrible! At Grand Oaks we were now at ease that she was well taken care of. Danielle and her staff of nurses, Brandon, Don to name a few were there for mom until the end. The memory care staff, Fred, Carlin, Samara and so many more made mom feel that she wasn’t alone and she was safe. I’ll miss seeing these precious caregivers. I be see the bad reviews on the OLD administration, but rest a sure, that person is gone. Ashley and Lori and their staff are the best and we highly recommend this beautiful place. Thanks again for all you did for mom and us. ❤️
