Not even 3 weeks since moving in, my in-laws are saying coming here is possibly the worst mistake they've ever made. At 95 yrs old they do not need memory care, and according to the facility rules they do not qualify for assisted living. So far they've been unable to even have curtain rods put up to cover the windows. Someone came to try but the rods fell immediately and no one came back to fix them. The residents have to pay regular, per hour rates for repairs and installations in addition to their high rent!
My in-laws were stranded in a seemingly endless hallway when they had a scooter break down. They didn't bring their phones since they were on the way to have dinner in the facility. No human being knew or acknowledged or attempted to help them until a visitor happened to find them.
The next day they went to have dinner again. The waitress said they were out of the "special". When the in-laws ordered margaritas they were told that the wait-staff were all under age and could not serve alcohol.
My in-laws are two highly intelligent, accomplished 95 year old people, who, for much longer than anyone can remember, observed cocktail hour and conversation every evening; EVERY EVENING FOR MANY, MANY YEARS!
The small apartment is sweltering-no help that bare windows allow the sun to bake the room!
Things have been very different at this facility than what was promised during the tour and many discussions. The past 3 weeks have only served to make an already difficult transition even harder for my in-laws and our entire family.
THE PROVERBIAL FROM THE PAN TO THE FIRE....
My brother thought he'd escaped living under a draconian HOA before moving to CW. Now every aspect of his life is under corporate-think cost control. (That's where they control THEIR cost, while squeezing you like a lemon)
I would advise enjoying the finedining and schmoozy time-share selling technique they use to get you in.
Of course, if you neither eat or care how you are treated, you should do just fine.
Living independently can leave depression as an option.
Becoming an inmate of CW will assure it.
My review might seem a little biased because 40 years ago I founded Erickson Senior Living, the company that built and currently manages Wind Crest. We used to always say that in this industry the best test of quality is whether you’d someday move in to one of your communities. Well, Nancy and I moved from our home in Annapolis and became residents of Wind Crest in January 2022 and have enjoyed every minute since. One of the things we’re enjoying the most is meeting and getting to know other residents. We love that there are 8 restaurants to choose from all with unique menus. I enjoy walking over to the new 25 meter pool for lap swimming many mornings. Nancy is excited about the four pickle-ball courts that are being built this spring. I never would have envisioned outdoor rock concerts at one of our communities back in the early years, but our summer concert series has been a big hit. We both enjoy the huge variety of education classes and guest speakers that we can attend when we’re not too busy with other activities. We also still travel a lot, and like that we can lock the front door and not worry about a water leak or some other maintenance issue like we did when we owned a house. I told people for years that they shouldn’t wait too long to make a move like this and now I can say firsthand that I was giving good advice. Check it out, and you will see what I mean.
Both my in-laws and my father have lived here. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others, in fact, I have. We have experienced the independent living, the skilled nursing and the memory care and have been pleased with all of them. The staff seems to genuinely care about the residents and are friendly and helpful. You have the choice of using the on-site support services or using independent agencies. There are multiple dining choices on site and more coming, they offer transportation and they have a very good fitness center. If you're looking for a place for yourself or your parents, definitely check out Wind Crest.
Windcrest has an amazing community. From the residents to the staff, everyone I’ve met is friendly; the staff is kind and professional. It makes coming here lovely. The staff interactions with the residents is always so compassionate. It truly is uplifting to know that seniors get such quality care at Windcrest.
