My mother moved into Vineyards in April of 2021. July of 2025 the property was purchased by new owners. The first grand idea was firing the activity director and office staff. His next grand idea was minimizing staffing. Many times there is only 1 staff in the building. We observed the building with absolutely no staff for periods of time. The residents can easily walk out the front door, there is no lock on any door nor the gate. There are virtually no activities, no outings. My mom is on a low sodium diet, they could not accommodate any longer. The staff members are beautiful humans, but how can 1 person cook, clean, pass medications, assist with adls as needed, monitor the door, answer the phone, do resident laundry, and all of the other things? I live in Detroit and most of the times when I called to talk to my mother the phone was unanswered. Who can blame the staff though, they are not given enough support to do an adequate job.
I had given the facility shopping money for my mother as under the previous ownership they used to take residents shopping regularly. I was ghosted by the administrator when I kept asking for receipts, or the cash back. I had to call adult protective services in order to finally get a response from the administrator. They claimed to have magically found the money. I know this to be a lie as the denominations were incorrect (they gave me 2 $50s instead of the 5 $20s, and there had been coins in the $ left over from previous shopping as well. I would have respected Malik (owner) and administrator (Angie) if they had told me the truth and made it right. But I know that had I not gotten APS involved, my mother's cash would never have been returned to her.
If you love your family member, please avoid this property. The owner does not care about the people he has been entrusted to care for. He is in it to make money only, and obviously could not care less about your loved ones.
Staff does not communicate with other staff as shifts change. No instructions conveyed properly at all about specific requests from family members. They don't remember or care, or have the time to focus on those things. Some staff employees in housekeeping they hire are thieves. Stolen cash and clothes from my Dad's room in the past. Serious dementia residents will steal from other resident's rooms as well and not much is done to correct the issue. They won't allow residents to lock their room doors if they can't remember how to use a key, etc. No security cameras anywhere, these patients have 'rights'. My Dad can no longer have a TV in his room because a seriously demented resident regularly takes it, no matter what is done, rips the antenna off the window from the tape, etc. The staff find it, almost ALWAYS in the guy's room, hidden under his bed, so we KNOW it's him. I spend hours getting it set up again, and 2-3 days later he takes it again. This has happened now 4-5 times in the last 6 weeks. I have to keep his TV now stored at my home because management can't do their job and get the guy moved to a vacancy in the other building, or his family member will do nothing. He has anger issues too, so could possibly get violent. Nothing being done about that either by management or whoever handles his financial affairs, living arrangements or medication. The management will not give me the name of the actual facility OWNER either. Guess I'm not entitled to that information since my sister, not me, is our Dad's POA. My sister thinks the whole thing is no big deal.
If you care for your loved ones, don’t send them to the Vineyards. My father in law has dementia and they let him out without supervision, to take a walk. 4-1/2 hours later… he ended up in Palisade. Just imagine if he caught a ride with the wrong person! This is not the first time this has happened and family has been called to help come looking for him. No working cameras, no working alarm system, they are under new ownership and got rid of all the good caring staff that was there when we first put my father in law in their care.
Owned by the same owner of Retreats at Harbor Cove off Patterson and in Palisade! All horrible places to live! Horrible food lack of care and no dietary care!
All of the ladies working in this facility are unbelievably kind and caring. I can’t think of better people to look after loved ones.
